Course Overview

This component explores the application of statistical and other machine learning algorithms to intelligently analyze written and spoken language. The curriculum commences with a discussion of foundational concepts in natural language processing (NLP) and speech recognition, covering topics such as language modeling, formal grammar, statistical parsing, machine translation, and dialogue processing. Participants will then delve into modern NLP and speech recognition quantitative techniques. Through practical examples and hands-on exercises, students will apply these techniques using various NLP toolkits, refining their proficiency in language processing and speech recognition.

The main assessment method will be as follows: 100% Assignment (Word Count: 4,000 – 6,000 words)

  • Students must be in possession of a minimum MQF Level 4 full qualification or higher related to Software Design, IT, or Computing
  • While not mandatory, any relevant experience in IT, software development, or related areas will be considered a benefit.
  • A demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and software design, along with a commitment to successfully completing the programme.
  • In the case of international students, where English is not an official language, students need to demonstrate proficiency in the English language through IELTS (Score: 6.0) (International English Language Testing System) or equivalent.
