This unit explores the cutting-edge applications and societal impacts of artificial intelligence (AI), extending beyond foundational AI concepts to examine how AI technologies are transforming industries and addressing complex global challenges. Students will explore a range of topics including the development and deployment of Expert Systems, enhancements in Planning and Robotics, and innovations in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Speech Recognition, and Computer Vision. The course will particularly focus on the integration of these AI technologies in practical scenarios, highlighting their role in real-world problem-solving and decision-making processes. Through detailed case studies, students will gain insights into the evolution of AI applications in fields such as healthcare, autonomous vehicles, environmental science, and public safety, illustrating the profound impact of AI on modern society.
Furthermore, the module covers the ethical dimensions of AI, emphasizing the importance of designing and implementing AI solutions that uphold ethical standards and contribute positively to societal welfare.
